601 Meeting Street

This 7-story mixed use structure is located in Charleston, South Carolina.

The project consists of five stories of Type III residential construction, all of which is constructed on top of post-tensioned concrete podium slab.  Below the podium, there is parking at Levels 1 and 2, as well as multiple retail spaces at Level 1.

The residential portion of the project is wood-framing, though there are two areas that will be framed out with post-tensioned podiums at Level 4 and Level 5.  Levels 2 and 3 are flat plate post-tensioned slabs.  The slab at Level 1 must also be structured, due to flooding concerns and unsuitable soils on site, and will consist of a combination of post-tensioned flat plate and one-way slab and beam construction.  The lateral system for the building will be a combination of sheathed light-framed walls (wood construction) and special concrete shear walls.  The building will be supported on precast, prestressed concrete piles.
