Highland Park Residence (3709 Lexington Avenue)

The Highland Park Residence at 3709 Lexington Avenue in Highland Park, Texas is an architectural and structural modern fantasy turned real.  The residence is comprised of 3 primary structures, the primary residential building, an office and art gallery and the parking garage.

This project features a combination of structural steel and timber framing to create long cantilevered spans and an open floor space.  The main living/dining area is enclosed by 40 feet of pocket sliding doors that allow the space to be opened to the exterior at both sides.  The master suite is located in the 32’ cantilever front end of the house and has interior windows that allow the resident to peer down on the gallery court from above.

Other structural challenges include the expansive soils present on the site the house was built on that required special foundation detailing and the cantilevered stone façade wrapping the second story.
