Somerby of Sandy Springs is located in the Perimeter area on the north side of Atlanta, Georgia. The complex consists of 128 Independent Living Units and 72 Assisted Living/Memory Care Units and 248,510 SF of total space, 40% of which consists of common areas.
The independent living building is a five-story structure that is type IIIA wood-framed construction on a conventional concrete slab on grade foundation. Post-tensioned concrete podium slab supports a portion of the wood framing, beneath which back-of-house spaces are located. Portions of the level 2 and 3 framing are composed of steel and engineered lumber, to provide clear space for common areas at below.
The assisted living/memory care building is a three-story structure that is type IIA construction, consisting of concrete slab on metal decking supported by cold-formed metal framing (CFMF) stud walls. Portions of the Level 2 framing included structural steel beams for transfer conditions created by open spaces at the ground level. The building is supported on a conventional concrete slab on grade foundation.
The common building is a steel-framed building utilizing composite slab on metal deck for the elevated floors and cold-formed metal framing (CFMF) roof trusses. The lateral system for this building was a combination of steel moment frames and steel braced frames.
