Located in Cobb County, Georgia, Sterling Estates is a senior living facility that provides both independent living and assisted care options for its residents. It consists of 90 assisted living units and 21 independent living units. The assisted living building is a two-story structure that is type V construction on a conventional concrete slab on grade foundation. A portion of the building also has a basement/terrace level. A significant portion of the level 2 framing is composed of steel and engineered lumber, as transfer conditions existed in many areas, due to the requirement for large open spaces at the ground floor. The floor trusses used on this project were 24” deep, which allowed for longer spans and a reduction in the number of bearing walls required within the footprint of the resident units. The independent living building is a three-story structure that is type V construction. It is also supported on a conventional concrete slab on grade foundation.
